Follow background jobs
Every slow action in the panel, such as creating a site, a backup, a restore, a certificate or an import, runs as a background job. It has named steps with progress, and it keeps running when you close the browser. Background jobs lists them from every node.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You are an Owner or an Administrator to see the page. A site’s own page also lists the jobs of that site.
Find a job
Section titled “Find a job”- Open Background jobs in the sidebar, under Operations. A badge on the item counts what is running.
- Read the jobs under way at the top. Below them, finished jobs are grouped by day.
- Narrow the list with the search box, with All job types, or with the state buttons.
The page updates on its own. It shows the most recent matching jobs only, and says so when older ones are left out. Narrow the filter to reach them.
Read a job
Section titled “Read a job”- Click a job. Its page shows each step, progress bars for long steps, and the log.
- If the job is about a site, Open with the site’s name leads there.
You can leave the page at any time. The job continues on the node.
Run a failed job again
Section titled “Run a failed job again”- Open the failed job. Retry job is shown only for a job that has ended, and only for kinds that can be repeated.
- Click Retry job and confirm. A new job starts.
Check that it worked
Section titled “Check that it worked”The job’s state reads as done, with the last step’s message. Check the result where it belongs: a certificate on Domains & SSL, a backup on the site’s Backups tab.
If it fails
Section titled “If it fails”- “admin role required”: only an Owner or an Administrator can retry a job.
- “Job is still running”: wait for it to end.
- A job that stops moving during an update: jobs that were running when the services stopped show as failed. See Recover from a failed update.
- A failed job’s log names the cause. Start from the matching page in Troubleshooting.
