Set or move the panel domain

Without a panel domain the panel answers on its IP address with a self-signed certificate, and every browser warns. The setup wizard offers this step, and you can do it or repeat it later under Settings.

  • You are an Owner, signed in on the master. An Administrator can open the page and sees the forms disabled.
  • An A or AAAA record for the name points at the master, and port 80 reaches it from the internet.
  • A Let’s Encrypt contact is set under Settings, HTTPS & previews. The card warns when it is not.
  1. Open Settings in the sidebar, then Panel, and find Panel domain.
  2. Enter the name in Hostname. When a domain is already set, the field reads Move the panel to.
  3. Click Set up the domain or Move the panel. Tick Skip the DNS check only when the record is right and a resolver still has the old one.

Hyperion checks the name in DNS and saves it. It writes the nginx site /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/hyperion-panel.conf with a temporary self-signed certificate, tests and reloads nginx, and requests a Let’s Encrypt certificate in the background. The status in the card follows the request.

The pill reads set, and the card says where the panel is. The certificate status in the card shows the Let’s Encrypt certificate.

Terminal window
curl -sI https://panel.example.com/ | head -n 1

Expected: a status line with no certificate error. localhost stays open for health checks and SSH tunnels.

  • The DNS check fails: fix the record and wait, or tick Skip the DNS check when the record is already right.
  • The certificate status stays on the self-signed certificate: port 80 is blocked, or the record points elsewhere. See A certificate request fails.
  • “No Let’s Encrypt contact is set, so the panel cannot get a trusted certificate.”: follow Set the contact in the card.
  • You cannot reach the panel: see The panel does not load or says it is updating.
