Hyperion is a hosting control panel for Debian servers. You install it on one server, the master, and manage websites, backups, certificates and WordPress from a web panel. Add more servers later as workers and manage them from the same panel.

  • Creates a hosting in one step: Linux user, nginx configuration, PHP-FPM pool, database, certificate and, if you ask for it, WordPress. If a step fails, the steps already done are undone.
  • Runs backups, copies them off-site to S3 or an FTP, FTPS or SFTP server, and restores them.
  • Keeps WordPress sites updated and checked.
  • Applies plans: profiles set limits, and care packages sell and enforce maintenance.
  • Watches the servers, and alerts you by email and Slack.
  • Imports sites from CloudPanel and HestiaCP, and moves sites between servers.

It does not provide mailboxes and does not run DNS for your domains.

Every server runs an agent that does the work. The master also runs the panel, the web interface you use. The panel asks the agent on the right server to act. You can also use the hctl command on any server, which talks to that server’s agent and works when the panel is down.

Server Runs Listens on
Master agent, panel 80 and 443 (nginx), 8443 (panel)
Worker agent 80 and 443 (nginx), 9443 (requests from the master)
  1. Check the requirements, then install the master.
  2. Finish setup in the browser with the setup wizard.
  3. Follow your first hour to check the installation and create your first site.
  4. Look up any unfamiliar word in Concepts. Find your way around the panel tells you which page covers each part of the panel.
  5. Later: update Hyperion, and add a worker node.
